What is Parish Nursing Ministry?

Congregations which reclaim their role in healing, understand the link between health and faith as part of their mission. Parish Nursing is a health ministry emphasizing the wholeness of body, mind and spirit.

Who is the Parish Nurse?
The Parish Nurse is a Registered Nurse with specialized training, who is called to the ministry. The Parish Nurse at Holy Eucharist Church is Gertrude Karapita, R.N., B.Sc.N.

What is the role of the Parish Nurse?
• interprets the role which faith plays in the well-being of the community
• offers support and encouragement during times of crisis and celebration
• focuses on health promotion and disease prevention
• provides referral information, advocacy and coordinates services
• encourages and facilitates congregational participation in ministry
• maintains confidentiality

What is the function of the Parish Nursing Ministry Committee?
Established by the parish, the Parish Nursing Ministry Committee advises and works with the clergy and parish nurse. It also plays a major role in developing, implementing and evaluating programs and services in response to the identified needs of the congregation.
These unique programs model, in a practical way, the whole person approach to health and wellness.
