BIBLES ARRIVAL. The newly published Orthodox Study Bible has arrived at last and will be on sale at the Book Table, the long weekend of May 18th. Price of the hard cover edition is $50.00 and the leather bound edition is $80.00. Both have beautiful full colour plates of icons throughout the book. The print is somewhat larger than regular bibles. The New Testament text is the New King James Version. The Old Testament text is St. Athanasius Academy Septuagint. The commentary is based largely on the writings of the Fathers of the Church. We have of course many other Bibles including the Revised Standard Version and the New Jerusalem Version. Do come by for a look.

BIBLES, BIBLES, BIBLES.
(Book & Icon Service). The Revised Standard Version (RSV) is the official English translation for the Catholic Church. We now have a small compact RSV Version for travel, commuting, etc. A nice gift for someone going away to school. At the other extreme, we have a large family Bible with pages for names of the generations of the family tree, record of births, deaths and marriages. An ideal wedding gift! • We have the Ignatius Press RSV both in hard cover and leather. Again, a beautiful gift ofr graduation, weddings, etc. • On order and available in February and March will be the Orthodox Study Bible, which has an excellent commentary based largely on the writings of the Church Fathers. It contains both Old and New Testaments according to the King James translation. You will have a choice of either leather cover or regular hard cover bindings. • We also have the New Jerusalem translation much loved in times past. We have of course bibles in Ukrainian. • The children/youth section offers much as well with everything from toddler age to a regular bible for teens.

Apostleship of Prayer
The “Apostleship of Prayer” is an association of faithful in the Toronto Eparchy, whose purpose is to nurture, encourage and promote daily personal prayer, family prayer, reverence for the Lord’s Day, Sunday attendance at Divine Liturgy, and ever greater devotion to the Most Holy Eucharist. If you are interested in joining the Apostleship of Prayer at Holy Eucharist Church, informational pamphlets are available in the vestibule of the church, or contact Fr. Peter Babej at the church office for more information.

Lighting Candles
Before entering the Temple proper, it is the custom of Byzantine Churches to make an Offering of Light. When we come into Church, we venerate icons, and at the same time, we light the candle and palce them on the candle stands.

For your convenience, a candle box is provide in the nave of the church, right next to the vigil candles. A minimum donation is requested to reimburse the Church to cover the cost of the candle. Most churches use on pure beeswax candles as per the Canons and because they give a pure, clear and steady light. “You are the light of the world ... In the same way, your light must shine .. so that seeing your good works, they may give praise to your Father in heaven.” (Mt. 5:14-16) Lighting candles are an eloquent symbol of both Christ, our light; and that we are in Christ (both those who are glorified Saints depicted in icons and those called be be saints who come to church, and despite our sins and by God’s grace alone, form the Body of Christ.). Jesus said: “I am the Light of the world. Anyone who follows me will not be walking in the dar; he will have the light of life.” (Jn. 8:12)

MAKING REVERENCE
When we enter the Temple proper (ie. having passed through the Vestibule), we make a “Reverence” - the sign of the cross and bow. People often make three reverences. Also when we exit, we make a reverence (or 3).
